Touched by an Angel: Season 1 Ep. 9: Fear Not

“In order to understand what happens in your body when you dislike someone, you can start by trying to understand fear. As Robert Sapolsky writes in “Why Your Brain Hates Other People,” when we see someone who even looks different from us, “there is preferential activation of the amygdala,” which means the brain region associated with fear and aggression flares up. This visceral, emotional reaction can spark a long-term pattern of dislike when it’s validated by action: if you perceive that someone has hurt you, your fear of them becomes rational. Our negative feelings toward someone get stronger as bad experiences with them pile up, and these negative thoughts trigger the fight-or-flight response in our bodies.”

People may show off their wealth on social media for various reasons, such as seeking validation, gaining social status, or boosting self-esteem. Additionally, it could be driven by the desire to attract attention, admiration, or envy from others, leading to a sense of accomplishment and superiority. Social media’s emphasis on comparison and public display often fuels this behavior, creating a platform for people to showcase their material possessions and luxurious experiences.

The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.

God has many names, you know. Jehovah, Almighty, Everlasting Father, Alpha and Omega … But do you know what He calls Himself? “I Am.” Ask God who He is, and that is what He’ll tell you. “I Am.” Not “I was” or “I’m going to be.” But “I am.” “I am here for you now because that’s where you need Me.” And if God is here, right here, right now, what is there to fear?

— Martha Williamson, When Angels Speak: Inspiration From Touched By An Angel
