“In May of 2022, the FDA deauthorized the use of 23 phthalates in food packaging, following a petition. Six of those chemicals – dimethyl phthalate, diethyl phthalate, diisobutyl phthalate, dibutyl phthalate, benzylbutyl phthalate and didecyl phthalate – were detected in the Filet-O-Fish box tested by Symbio Laboratories. All six chemicals have been linked to an increased risk of impaired male reproductive development. Or, as Fuck McDonald’s puts it, they’ll ‘super-shrink a peen’.”

“To help consumers identify foods that are particularly useful in building healthy dietary patterns, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has updated the definition of the ‘healthy’ nutrient content claim, which includes criteria a food must meet to use the ‘healthy’ claim on the package. The FDA also is exploring the development of a symbol to represent the claim ‘healthy’ to make it easier to spot foods that can be the foundation of healthy eating patterns.”

Onion Recall Linked to E. Coli and McDonald’s Spreads to Other Fast Food Chains
A deadly outbreak spurred removal of onions by a major food supplier in the Mountain West. Taco Bell, KFC, Burger King and Pizza Hut have stopped serving onions at various locations.
“A sweeping onion recall linked to an E. coli outbreak involving McDonald’s Quarter Pounders has prompted several other major fast-food chains to remove raw onions from their menu offerings. Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, KFC and Burger King have stopped adding fresh onions to their signature items at certain locations. A spokeswoman for Yum Brands, which owns several fast-food chains, said that its restaurants were yanking onions from their menus ‘out of an abundance of caution.’ Yum Brands would not elaborate or say how many sites in how many states would not offer onions.”
