Choose life

“Choose
life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking
big television, Choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players, and
electrical tin can openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol and
dental insurance. Choose fixed-interest mortgage repayments. Choose a
starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisure wear and matching
luggage. Choose a three piece suite on hire purchase in a range of
fucking fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on a
Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing
spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth.
Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pishing your last in a
miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish,
fucked-up brats you have spawned to replace yourself. Choose your
future. Choose life … But why would I want to do a thing like that? I
chose not to choose life: I chose something else. And the reasons? There
are no reasons…

…The truth is that I’m a bad person. But, that’s
gonna change – I’m going to change. This is the last of that sort of
thing. Now I’m cleaning up and I’m moving on, going straight and
choosing life. I’m looking forward to it already. I’m gonna be just like
you. The job, the family, the fucking big television. The washing
machine, the car, the compact disc and electric tin opener, good health,
low cholesterol, dental insurance, mortgage, starter home, leisure
wear, luggage, three piece suite, DIY, game shows, junk food, children,
walks in the park, nine to five, good at golf, washing the car, choice
of sweaters, family Christmas, indexed pension, tax exemption, clearing
gutters, getting by, looking ahead, the day you die.”—Trainspotting

It’s hard to know how people select a course in life, Amos said. The big choices we make are practically random. The small choices probably tell us more about who we are. Which field we go into may depend on which high school teacher we happen to meet. Who we marry may depend on who happens to be around at the right time of life. On the other hand, the small decisions are very systematic. That I became a psychologist is probably not very revealing. What kind of psychologist I am may reflect deep traits.

“In a recent Ditch the Label study, we spoke to 7,347 people about bullying. We asked respondents to define bullying and then later asked if, based on their own definition, they had ever bullied anybody. 14% of our overall sample, so that’s 1,239 people, said yes. What we then did was something that had never been done on this scale before; we asked them intimate questions about their lives, exploring things like stress and trauma, home lives, relationships and how they feel about themselves.”

What happens when a soul gets “lost”?

As Blaylock-Johnson explains, “Soul loss can be defined as a type of fragmentation that can occur after some type of trauma. Psychologically, it can be explained as dissociation, but it’s a way we learn to survive traumatic events.”

Hypnotist and author of WishCraft Shauna Cummins believes this can happen at any time and can also build up gradually. When we become burnt out (physically, mentally, emotionally, and/or spiritually), have strayed from our purpose, or experience something traumatizing, any of these things can cause the soul to “disconnect.”

A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.

“Don’t let the expectations and opinions of other people affect your decisions. It’s your life, not theirs. Do what matters most to you; do what makes you feel alive and happy. Don’t let the expectations and ideas of others limit who you are. If you let others tell you who you are, you are living their reality — not yours. There is more to life than pleasing people. There is much more to life than following others’ prescribed path. There is so much more to life than what you experience right now. You need to decide who you are for yourself. Become a whole being. Adventure.”— Roy T. Bennett

You can’t judge people only by how they treat you. The true test of character is how they treat those they don’t like or need.

Even if someone is kind to you, proceed with caution if they’re consistently unkind to others.

Selective civility is a sign of deep-seated hostility.
