there\u2019s comfort in feeling you have a place that you belong, a place that you go. like work, like another house,
\nwhere the sweeping up feels more a gesture of goodwill. what can i say, i
\n am great at the interim. at borrowed clothes, and the morning routine
\nthat speaks of dual lives. at half a home there, not mine, and half a
\nhome here, mine, my personal museum of sentimental artifacts, rations
\nfor the work day, scents. i love it here and yet there, existence is
\nlight.<\/p>\n
things in order. shelves for all my books. sentimental objects
\ndiscarded. intention and purpose unencumbered by objects. as if that
\nwere possible.<\/p>\n
i used to think that without these things, i\u2019d have no sense of who i
\n was and so am, history and memory would be displaced and things would
\nfall apart. it\u2019s the fear that\u2019s kept me living alongside 10 year old
\njournals and 20 year old books; that without these to light the way i\u2019d
\nlose all sense of what\u2019s important. it\u2019s possible that what was
\nimportant isn\u2019t quite so these days.<\/p>\n
i purchased another pair of shoes. used, for the patina. i will be
\nforever restless. this is the most peaceful i\u2019ve been in awhile. it\u2019s
\nbeen six nine months.<\/p>\n
