\n one? Wood smells because there are thousands of them! White, black,
\ndry, milky, burnt or wet \u2013 I can hardly think of a perfume without wood
\nwhich for me is just like how the base or background is for a painter.<\/p>\n
5. Your Proust madeleine?<\/b>
I
\n have plenty \u2013 the solf\u00e8ge of a perfumer is a series of memories, of
\nemotions remembered. The most intimate of them is probably the smell of
\nmy teddy-bear when I was a child. Just thinking of him brings back nap
\ntimes and his familiar smell, a mixture of straw and boiled wool.<\/p>\n
7. In your opinion, which animal creates the most empathy?<\/b>
A donkey.<\/p>\n
8. Synesthesia: do you have sensorial associations with shape, colour, scent, and sound?<\/b>
My
\n work is based on the association game, the illusion of perception where
\n senses blend together, melt into each other and for me, smell brings
\nout all the senses.<\/p>\n

Letters to a Young Poet by Rainer Maria Rilke, I was 16 years old then.<\/p>\n

The movie Le Sauvage from my childhood, directed by Jean-Paul Rappeneau, because it inspired me to become a perfumer.

The sheer folly of artist Olafur Eliasson \u2013 the Weather Project, or Your Sun Machine.<\/p>\n
20. Which people, real or fictional, inspire you most? <\/b>
It\u2019s
\n more than just a character as it\u2019s often a detail that catches my
\nattention, an appeal, the unusual off-the-wall thing, a sensation which
\nbrings something else and creates a new craving, a new idea.
I also
\nrather like works by some artists like Anish Kapoor or Yoshioka Tokujin
\nwhere I find magic, an extraordinary poetry, which inspire me a great
\ndeal.<\/p>\n
22. If you could offer a bouquet of flowers to a bird, what would it be?
A bouquet of mint and chocolate cosmos flowers, chocolate scented!

Where there is water \u2013 as far as your eyes can see.<\/p>\n
26. Do you have a motto that you use as guidance and illumination?<\/b>
I
\n really like this from Andr\u00e9e Putman who I was lucky to meet, \u201cNot to
\ndare is already losing. Let us rejoice on any ambitious project, even
\nutopian, because things will never change unless we dream.\u201d<\/p>\n
27. Does the act of creating govern your life?<\/b>
It
\n becomes something essential that I look for, a feeling of the unknown,
\nof mystery, just like a need to go towards what\u2019s still strange to me.
Picasso once said \u201cWhat do I do when I\u2019ve no inspiration? I work!\u201d<\/p>\n
28. As a gift what would you like to give that would make something?<\/b>
Time.<\/p>\n
29. If you were to talk about your job to young talented people, what would you say as encouragement?<\/b>
I
\n would only give one piece of advice \u2013 by imitating others too much, one
\n tends to forget our own world, it kills both our instinct and
\nimagination.<\/p>\n

\nwhat is craftwork in modern times and setting economic or social issues
\naside, how can rare productions of noble quality be beneficial today?<\/b>
France
\n is a real gold-mine but the savoir-faire has gotten lost in
\nstandardization ruled by marketing and the desire to please the largest
\naudience. Today everyone gets dressed and perfumed almost in a uniformed
\n way, it\u2019s terrible! Craftsmanship, rare creations, the \u201clittle hands\u201d
\nseem to be the only future of luxury versus an exhausted market by
\nstandardised and globalized brands. We\u2019re already seeing an urge for
\nmore truthfulness.<\/p>\n
33. And what would your favourite diptyque scent (perfume or candles) be?<\/b>
